Snorkeling
Hol Chan & Shark Ray Alley Marine Park Snorkel Trip: Half Day, 2 stops
Hol Chan Mayan for “little Channel”, “quebrado” in Spanish, is about 4 miles south, a short 15 minute boat ride. And is the most popular snorkel (& dive) area in Ambergris Caye. Fish and other marine life in this area propagate healthily and so the population thrives. Schools of jacks, groupers and snappers come to greet the new guests of the day, as you are guided off to the channel’s edge where vibrant coral form crevices and an overhang which green eels and lobsters dwell in. Shark Ray Alley lies just 3 minutes from Hol Chan, and this time Nurse Sharks and Southern Stingrays politely greet you as you arrive to visit them. Local fishermen cleaning their catch in the area is what got them to congregate in this specific area, so fish scrap is thrown overboard as they have come to expect. (http://www.holchanbelize.org/)
