For months, all Axel has been wanting for his 10th Birthday is his Scuba Certification, today January 11th is that day. Having owned and operated Ambergris Divers for a decade and having certified thousands of new and upgraded Divers, there is now nothing that makes us more proud than to have officially completed our son’s Junior Open Water Certification. Axel is now the newest Diver!

Poland Diving in Belize

This past weekend we had Gdynia Dive Club from Poland diving with us for 3 days. It was a whole different experience as they shared a more technical aspect of scuba diving.

Peter and the crew enjoyed perfect 100+ visibility and were glad that our boats were totally camera friendly. They got some incredible shots at Esmeralda with the sharks and the moray eels.

Their long weekend was well enjoyed as they stayed in house at Banana Beach Resort, so when they got in from their dive trips, El Divino always had a nice meal waiting for them

Looking forward to their next visit this coming Summer 2011.

Banded Coral Shrimp

The banded coral shrimp is truly unique with long, white antennae, and its body and legs are red or violet (the red bands) with white stripes. Known as a cleaner shrimp, the banded coral shrimp hangs around openings in the reef and around sponges as it waves its long white antenna to attract fish, and then cleans them of algae and parasites, which is its primary food source. If you place your hand close to it, it may even clean your fingernails.

Blue Tang

The Blue Tang boasts a vibrant electric blue body dressed with bold black markings. In fact, the black that begins at the eyes, traces the dorsal line down to the tail, and circles back above the pectoral fin to create a unique shape reminiscent of a painter’s palette. This marking is why the Blue Tang is also known as the Palette Surgeonfish. It is also called the Pacific Blue Tang, and Hepatus or Regal Tang.
