Lamanai Mayan Temples are one of the oldest occupied Mayan Sites in Belize.

The word Lamanai means Submerged Crocodile, supported by the large number of crocodile representations found onsite, there’s also a 19th century sugar mill, the remains of two 16th Century Catholic Churches that were burned down by the Mayans after the Spanish tried converting them into Catholics.

Overview

It’s a 1-hour drive from Belize City, on the George Price Highway, to the village of Carmelita. From there you board a boat that will take you on a beautiful river tour, on the Belize New River, to Lamanai Mayan Ruins.

On the way you will see crocodiles, Spider monkeys & beautiful Orchids.

When you get to Lamanai lunch will be served followed by your tour to the site where your guide will explain the history of Lamanai.
